Several years ago my wife and I moved into a new home with an extensive yard. The house was over 15 years old and the irrigation system had gone through many "improvements". The previous owner had added 3 zones to the 6 zones already installed in the front yard to improve coverage. Six zones were driven by the main irrigation controller and 3 were driven by a battery operated controller.

There were many issues with this setup but the worst problem with the battery operated controller was its reliability. The controller was from a big name manufacturer (I won't mention the name) but it failed regularly with sticking valves and two total controller failures. I decided there must be a better way. Pulling new cable all the way from the controller, around the back of the house and under the driveway would be expensive so I looked for a system that could control 9 valves directly from the main irrigation controller with only 7 wires. I couldn't find a suitable solution so I invented the 9 Zone Irrigation Expander. That expander controlled 9 valves with only 6 wires and it worked flawlessly. I started getting requests from friends and neighbors to install expander systems for them so I hired a team to reduce the cost of the 9 Zone Irrigation Expander and develop a design suitable for mass production. From that development work the microprocessor controlled Irrigander 8 Expander was born.

Since the introduction of the Irrigander 8 Expander we have continued to innovate with new products and new technologies such as our proprietary Irrigander 2-wire Technology. The Irrigander Pro expander product family based on our Irrigander 2-wire Technology brings the flexibility of 2-wire systems to retrofit installations. This technology allows control of up to 8 valves using just one field wire and the system common.
